Water No. 58 "The Barbie"

My girls call it “The Barbie” - which is fitting because they tend to be my moral compass on many things in life. Color has a power to evoke memory and ideas in a way language doesn’t. The color pink is really challenging to paint because if it’s too pink it become hot pink and looks like a toy, if it’s not pink enough it lacks saturation and richness and your eye gets bored. But pink is the color we use to evoke tenderness and softness and sensuality - it’s a color that means vulnerable - something to take care of.

Setting the sea in this color allows me to drop into peace I felt after my step-father passed. I wish we were closer and now any ability for us to get closer is past. However I can get closer to him as I think and process emotions to draw myself closer with gratitude and forgiveness and compassion.

We can talk to people when they are not with us ya know. We can tell them we love them and we forgive them and we miss them. They will feel it. They will get a ping on their heart - from our consciousness to theirs. I don’t know how it works, but I’ve felt it from others.

We have to keep trying to love each other and hold each other and fight for each other as humans - meet and see each other and hold space for one another. I know thanksgiving is a challenging time for many due to family wounds - and I hope there is a moment today and tomorrow that you can take a moment for yourself and fill yourself up with rest and love.
